March came and went so quickly! In case you missed any newsworthy content, we are here to give you a recap of some pop culture and historical events that happened during the month.

94th Academy Awards

On Sunday, March 27th, the 94th Annual Academy Awards were held to honor films released in 2021. The film, Dune, took home six awards all in regards to the film’s technical achievements such as Production Design, Cinematography, Visual Effects, Sound Design, and more. AppleTV became the first streaming platform to win Best Picture for its film CODA as well as Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay. Other winners of the night included Jessica Chastain for Best Actress in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Ariana DeBose for Best Supporting Actress in West Side Story, Billie Eilish for Best Original Song, and Encanto for Best Animated Feature. The most talked-about moment of the night was when Will Smith got on stage and slapped Chris Rock after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. When it first happened, many people speculated that it was a bit, but international networks were able to cover the whole thing and Will was not happy. That moment overshadowed Will Smith’s acceptance for Best Actor in King Richard. The ceremony was a nice return to normal, being held at the Dolby Theatre as compared to last year’s event at LA’s Union Station. The stars came out in their Sunday best with the fashion on the red carpet. Click here to see the best and worst moments from the ceremony and here for the best and worst dressed on the red carpet.

The unofficial baseball season kicked off on March 18 with a condensed schedule. The official baseball season is set to begin on April 7 and teams will play a full 162 game season.

Supreme Court Nomination Hearings

Last month, President Biden nominated Judge Kentanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court after Justice Stephen Breyer announced that he was retiring. President Biden held onto one of his campaign promises which was to nominate the first female African American to the Supreme Court if a seat opened up. During the week of March 21st, the Senate Judiciary Committee held confirmation hearings for the committee to question her on her judicial record and philosophy. The United States Senate is expected to vote on whether or not she will be serving on the Supreme Court during the week of April 4th.
