Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Marvel released its 28th film in the MCU on May 6th. The film is a sequel to the 2016 film, Doctor Strange, and takes place after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was released last December. In the movie, Strange takes it upon himself to protect America Chavez—a teenager who can travel through the multiverse—from a former Avenger. The film made $187 million within its first weekend, becoming the 11th-best domestic debut of all time and the best summer debut for a Disney release during the pandemic.

Harry’s House

Harry Styles released his anticipated third album, Harry’s House, on Friday, May 20th. The album was preceded by the #1 single “As It Was” and a headlining performance at Coachella with surprise guests Shania Twain and Lizzo. Within the first twenty minutes of release, the album was #1 on the US iTunes chart and earned the most first-day streams for a pop album released in 2022 within two hours on Apple Music. Since its release, the album has received critical acclaim as Alexis Petridis of The Guardian wrote that the album “ticks a lot of the right boxes and has abundant charm, which makes it a perfect reflection of the pop star who made it.”

The Met Gala

Fashion’s biggest night returned on Monday, May 3rd as A-listers walked the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Phoenix Suns Devastating Loss

The Phoenix Suns suffered an embarrassing second-round Game 7 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday, May 15th. The Mavs defeated the Suns 113-86. By halftime, the Suns were down by 30 points which is three points more than their all-time franchise low. Fans were upset and demanded answers for the lousy gameplay as it was expected the Suns would clinch the division with the home-court advantage.

SCOTUS Leak

On Monday, May 3rd, Politico obtained a leaked draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito showing that the Supreme Court has voted to strike down Roe v. Wade. While this is not official, the ruling is scheduled to come out before the end of the term in June. This is the first time in the modern-day history of the Supreme Court that a draft decision has been disclosed publicly while a case is still pending. After confirming that the draft was legitimate, Chief Justice Roberts called for an investigation into who leaked the draft saying that this “does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case.”
