Texas Rangers Win World Series
On November 1, the Texas Rangers became World Series champions after defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks in five games. It was the Rangers’ first World Series title in franchise history after three appearances in the World Series.
SAG Strike Comes to an End
After almost 120 days, SAG-AFTRA reached a tentative deal with the AMPTP to end the strike that put Hollywood on pause. On November 8, SAG-AFTRA released a statement to its members announcing the end of the strike: “We are thrilled and proud to tell you that today your TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee voted unanimously to approve a tentative agreement with the AMPTP. As of 12:01 am on November 9, our strike is officially suspended and all picket locations are closed.” SAG-AFTRA’s National Board committee then approved the agreement by a majority of 86%.
66th Annual Grammy Award Nominations
Nominations for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards were announced on Friday, November 10. The event honors the best in music recordings, compositions, and artists from the previous year. SZA led all artists with nine nominations. The ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 4, and aired on CBS. To see the full list of nominees, click here.
Phoenix Rising FC Wins The Championship
Phoenix Rising FC secured a thrilling victory against the Charleston Battery, overcoming a 1-0 deficit with a dramatic comeback in the USL Championship Final. Trailing for most of the game, Phoenix leveled the score in the final minutes of regulation, leading to a 1-1 tie. A penalty shootout ultimately decided the match, where Phoenix prevailed 3-2. Manuel Arteaga’s decisive penalty kick and a crucial miss by Charleston’s Derek Dodson secured the Rising’s triumph. This marked Phoenix’s third appearance in the USL Championship Final, having previously won the Western Conference in 2018 and 2020, and their triumphant journey included defeating top-seeded teams throughout the playoffs.
