We were tickled pink this month when it comes to pop culture and newsworthy content. In case you missed it – we have you covered.
Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)
Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), the third re-recorded album in Taylor Swift’s catalog as she works to regain ownership of her masters with her first six albums, was released on July 7th. This version features six additional tracks considered “vault” tracks as those were scrapped from the initial release in 2010. Upon its release, the album became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day in 2023 and the most-streamed country album in a single day, debuting atop the Billboard 200 with over 715,000 album sales.
MLB All-Star Game
The “Midsummer Classic” aired on Tuesday, July 11 where the game was played at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, home to the American League’s Seattle Mariners. The National League came out on top and earned its first win since 2012 with a final score of 3-2.
75th Primetime Emmy Nominations
Nominations for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, which honors the best in American prime-time television programming, were announced on Wednesday, July 12. Barbenheimer
July saw two of the most anticipated films of the summer, Barbie and Oppenheimer, being released on the same day which led to the phenomenon known as Barbenheimer. Rather than creating a rivalry between the two films, the internet created schedules and suggestions on how to watch the films as a double feature. Margot Robbie, the star of Barbie, suggested that you see her film followed by Oppenheimer with a rewatch of Barbie. After the first weekend, both films exceeded box office projections as the films brought in over $310 million together, making it the fourth largest aggregate domestic weekend ever.
