A Monthly Recap
Believe it or not, another month has gone by. But before we put September in the books, let’s reflect on some of the events that got the ANDERSON team fired up. Here’s a look back at the good and the not-so-good.
FOOTBALL IS BACK!
After months of wondering if football would be played during the pandemic, the season officially kicked off on Thursday, September 10. And to say that Team ANDERSON was excited would be a huge understatement. From sharing fantasy football leagues to Slack-ing about favorite plays, this group is all about football—right down to the good-natured trash talking. Now, all we need is an announcement about which band will be playing the Superbowl Halftime Show! According to popculture.com, these seven artists could play the biggest show of their lives: Foo Fighters, Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Flo-Rida, Def Leppard, Jimmy Buffett, and Volbeat. Most insiders are predicting that Taylor Swift will take the stage come February 2021.
The Emmys
Award Season officially kicked off with the Primetime Emmy Awards which aired on Sunday, September 20. The ceremony was unlike any other because it was almost entirely virtual…but they pulled it off. From having essential workers read the nominations for categories, to having Emmys delivered to the winners’ homes, to still having a few fun bits on stage with actors, it’s safe to say the Emmys set the bar for future COVID-19 ceremonies. Shows that took home awards included: Schitt’s Creek (pretty much all of them), Euphoria, Watchmen, Succession, Mrs. America, Ozark, and I Know This Much Is True.
Mulan
On September 4, the much-anticipated live-action version of this beloved animated film was finally released on the popular streaming service, Disney+. But there was a catch: Subscribers had to pay $29.99 extra to watch the film, although this included owning it outright so they could rewatch it as many times they wanted unless they cancelled their subscription. While the iconic songs and Mushu were left out, the live-action film was something most people did not want to miss out on. Rotten Tomatoes currently gives the movie a 75% which is one of the highest rated live-action Disney films after 2016’s The Jungle Book.
RIP Ruth Bader Ginsburg
On Friday, September 18, 2020, we lost an icon for all Americans and an inspiration for all women. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a champion for equality by not only changing the law, but changing the roles of men and women in society. As many heard about the passing of her death, many Americans took to the Supreme Court to rest flowers and create a memorial for her. Justice Ginsburg will be memorialized with a statue in Brooklyn, the city where she grew up.
