In December, Pantone named Classic Blue 2020’s Color of the Year. It’s pretty, but you might have thought, “who cares?”.
Before you click through to the next piece of content you’re being inundated with, let me ask you something. Have you ever paid attention to how far color trends extend across industries? Or consider how many people they affect?
I found myself considering just that. Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, said it perfectly.
“The trends we see in color reflect the trends that are taking place in culture.”
They become representative of a moment in time, communicating much more than just a hue. A color can invoke feeling, move and inspire — all in a language that is universal. As someone always with an eye on interior design and deeply invested in creative development, my world is full of color.
Now, the Pantone Color Institute has been selecting the Color of the Year for more than two decades. And it considers a wide range of influences as it looks to decide on the color of the coming year; from socioeconomic and political conditions to new technology, art, movies, lifestyles… and even more.
The year of beautifully saturated hues starts now. 2020 Color of the Year
