Designing in 4D

Here at ANDERSON, the creative team is continually learning new skills and staying up-to-date on the latest and greatest design tools. Recently we’ve embarked on a journey to learn Cinema 4D (ooo, ahhh).

What is Cinema 4D?

What is Cinema 4D you ask? Only the coolest 3D modeling, animation, motion graphics and rendering application on the market! Cinema 4D utilizes a 3 dimensional workspace that allows designers to create objects that have virtual mass and volume. The fourth “D” isn’t a spatial dimension, (you’ll have to check out Tesseracts for that) rather it represents time. This means that you can bring 3D creations to life with motion graphics, animation and camera movement. Check out this highlight reel, which showcases how powerful 4D animations are.

Cinema 4D has a wide range of real world applications. Here are just a few:

  • Film
  • Digital effects
  • Broadcast
  • Graphic design
  • Illustration
  • Product/architectural visualization
  • Science & Medicine
  • Engineering

How We Are Learning

Here at ANDERSON, we are constantly looking for professional development opportunities. Luckily our own Motion Graphics/Video Editor, Justin Gagen, always has his eye on the latest technologies and found the resource of School of Motion, an online school that offers classes on everything motion graphics.

Over the last quarter, our entire creative team took the six week course, Cinema 4D Basecamp, which taught them all about 3D modeling, lighting, texturing, animation, the MoGraph tools and compositing, just to name a few. While we will leave our motion graphics work to Justin, we are very proud of what our team has learned so far. Check out the projects our team has completed so far below.
