Creating eye-catching videos and animations is all about having the right inspiration and know-how. This doesn’t always come naturally, so when I’m in need of a little spark of inspiration or need to learn new skills, I turn to my favorite YouTube channels. Here are the top ten channels that I find myself watching most often.

Ted-Ed

“Ted-Ed” is the short format animation YouTube channel of the greater Ted brand, sourcing imaginative animators and studios from around the world to help teach people in an engaging and entertaining way. The videos are all unique, interesting and educational, offering just as much insight as Ted’s full-length lectures.

Every Frame a Painting

“Every Frame a Painting” is a YouTube channel dedicated to the analysis of film form. Produced by editor Tony Zhou, every video is a video essay speaking on the art and craft of filmmaking, along with all of the hard work and creativity that goes into it.

Cyriak

A fountain of everything weird, “Cyriak” is a surrealist animator who produces videos that can only be described as fever dreams.

Cub Studio

“Cub Studio” is an animation studio with a humorous bent and a distinctive style, whose productions are always a joy to watch.

Tastemade

Thought of as the royalty of recipes on YouTube, the high production value and quality recipes have made “Tastemade” an invaluable resource for the aspiring chef in all of us.

Philip Bloom

A working cinematographer by day and vlogger by night, Philip Bloom provides in-depth reviews on various cameras and lenses, as well as offers insight to the art and science of cinematography.

Petrolicious

“Petrolicious” is a love letter to the automobile, creating beautiful short video essays and articles for classic car enthusiasts like myself.

Cartoon Hangover

“Cartoon Hangover” is the home for cartoons that are too weird, wild and crazy for television. “Cartoon Hangover” is able to curate great characters, hilarious cartoons and some of the highest quality animation on the Internet and deliver it to you all in one place.

Film Riot

“Film Riot” is a how-to trip through filmmaking from the hyper-active mind of Ryan Connolly. From how to make great effects to following Triune Films through production, “Film Riot” explores the art of filmmaking in a way you’ve never seen.

The Engineer Guy

“The Engineer Guy” (Bill Hammack) is the Bob Ross of the engineering world. His channel is full of short videos explaining very interesting and clever engineering practices. Did you ever wonder why soda cans are shaped the way they are? He will tell you!

If one of these YouTube channels sounds enticing to you, make sure to check out one of their videos… or 50! Even if you hate all of these suggestions, just know there are channels out there for everything so go do some exploring of your own!
